John Gaillard

Published: 14th Aug 2022 by Nick Buckenham

I am very sorry to tell you that on Sunday 7th August our friend and colleague John Gaillard passed away peacefully at home. John had been strongly involved in the aerobatic sports movement in South Africa for a great many years, where his passing will be deeply mourned. He was also currently a CIVA Vice President, had previously chaired our Judging Committee for some years, was Chief Judge at a good number of CIVA aerobatic championships at all levels, and without doubt has been instrumental in guiding a wide range of CIVA policies and activities since I think back in the 1980’s. Life on the judging line, in the bureau of course and at plenary conferences will not be the same again.

A truly fine man in our sport, there are I know so many fond memories to recall. Most of you knew him well, and I have no doubt the range of anecdotes and recollections with John’s presence or influence are wide and varied.

Rest in peace John, you will not be forgotten.

Are you hosting an aerobatic event?

Our aim is to provide forward information for everyone with an interest in aerobatic competition flying.

For this however we do need your help, so please make sure that your Aerobatic Club or National Airsport Control sends us details of all competitions that are open to pilots and/or judges from other countries and we’ll add them to our Championship Calendar so that they get the widest circulation possible.

Showcase your aerobatic photos

We are always looking for photos and videos of exciting or important aerobatic moments to use as page headers or in linked articles. Simply click on the button and submit your hi-res images or videos and we’ll use whatever we can.

Of course, if you see anything else that needs an update or a change then let us know by email - contact@civa-news.com - and we’ll attend to it right away.
