1st FAI Formation Aerobatic Challenge

Published: 10th May 2017 by Civa News

Held at the Shangjie Airport in Zhengzhou City, China from April 29th to May 1st 2017 the first FAI / CIVA Formation Aerobatic Challenge event was a major success, with 12 world-leading aerobatic teams and 41 pilots all performing to their absolute maximum to show just their formation skills. Although the event was planned from the start as a pure competition, at a late stage for safety reasons the Aero Sport Federation of China required organisers World Air Carnival Ltd to revise the status to simply an Air Show – but what an air show we had!

For CIVA and WACL the initial set of regulations worked well, though of course many lessons were learned and a range of improvements and revisions are already being developed. The feedback from the teams has been extremely positive, for many this being their first experience of being assessed in comparison to the others.

Following this inaugural FAC there are strong indications that a fully competitive event can be staged at another location in 2018, and we’ll publish further information here as soon as we can.
